Exclusive: Mohun Bagan have identified Aiden O'Neill to reinforce the Midfield, but player is 'Not Convinced' yet.

As Joni Kauko's return date is yet to be known, Mohun Bagan is in search for a midifielder from foreign leagues.

Management is looking for a profile who can play the Kauko role short term and eventually replace Carl McHugh in the squad. It seems Mohun Bagan have found a perfect profile for that role as they have held initial discussions with the agents of Aiden O'Neill.

O'Neill had started his professional career for then English Premiere League side Burnley, where he made his debut against Liverpool in 2016.

He couldn't make a name in EPL but he has plenty of experience in English league as he played two seasons for Oldham and Fleetwood Town.
In 2018 he moved to A-League on loan, where he joined Central Coast Mariners(current club for Jason Cummings) and later joined the current A-League champions Melbourne City, where he has thrived in a midifield role.

This season he helped Melbourne to win their 3rd title, where he has played 26 games scoring 4 times and assisting thrice.

However, his contract is expiring in June, 2023 and Mohun Bagan management is trying to convince him to come to India.

Currently valued at INR 6Cr, Mohun Bagan can get his signature for free if he is willing to relocate, but, the player has his reservations on moving to India this early.

It is believed, Aiden would like to return to European football, but, if a European club can't be found he might stay in Melbourne, as his team has already qualified for AFC Champions League.

O'Neill has recently made his Australian debut too, and he is unsure if a move to India ruins his chances.

But, that is not stopping Mohun Bagan management, as they have scheduled another round of talks with Aiden's agents in coming weeks.

People who follows the new Mohun Bagan management closely, they knows Mohun Bagan doesn't leave the pursuit of a player in the first year of their scouting. If they fails to land their target, they wait and approach him again in the next transfer windows.

As per current scenario, Aiden has a very slim chance to play in India, but, for long term , Aiden is a name we might hear multiple times in the transfer windows.

If they fail to convince Aiden, they have a few more names in the table, where we have been informed talks with a player is in very concrete stage.

This season, Mohun Bagan is prepared to do anything to bring the league shield home and a foreign Midfielder is a priority signature, the management has identified.
